As the final year of my formal education at Roger Williams University School of Architecture Art Historic Preservation has begun, I embark on a journey of trials and tribunals. I am not only summing up 5 years of education but also laying a foundation for my future. With the advisement of professors, peers and others I begin my thesis. As I have been for year I am extremely concerned with global political, economical and social issues, both locally and globally, and wish to create a dialogue between these issues and my architecture. I am proposing a project that will investigate the fashion industry. The project will consist of a fashion "complex", institute, manufacturing design offices, transportation terminal galleries and housing, located in the heart of the manufacturing world in China. As most know, the fashion industry perpetuates inhumane working environments, disjunctions between designer, user and manufacturer, pollution and severs social economics class systems. As most design is in Milan, Paris, LA and New York, the majority of manufacturing is in South East Asia and the consumers are back in the developed countries. I hope the project brings light on the disconnect in the industry and manifests a sympathetic sentiment that will induce change. Impregnating the region with the design aspect of the industry will hopefully allow the region to improve. I am a strong believer in architectures ability to manifest change. The next post, my Manifesto, will lay out my idea toward architecture. The following blog will document my journey over the next 45 weeks.
Any and all criticism is not only allowed but appreciated and encouraged.
Thank you
